Horace Goes Skiing

Yeah Right Sure

Label: Popkid

3227
DiSvsMatt by Mat Hocking February 3rd, 2003

Bowling from the intelligent, but still slightly mischievous, school of punk Horace Goes Skiing *are a prime example of how the UK is still carving it’s own niche in the current world of tuneful punk rock. Sounding roughly like *Travis Cut *skating with *Face to Face *‘Yeah Right Sure’ opens with the manic _‘5.65 Keep Breathing’_, an angsty yet still rather touching take on the ol ‘boy/girl’ teen dilemma script it displays a band keen to avoid the simple 3 minute, 3 chord pop punk route. Songs like _‘Up Yours Hitchcock’ _and *_‘Wash Your Hair’ _let their creative juices flow, allowing them to vent their youthful energy through driving rhythms and humorous lyrics (I’m guessing Hitchcock was one of their teachers).

And reading through the history of the band in the inlay sleeve, written by an old roadie mate – the bands 'official supplier of hard drugs and soft women' – along with the twistedly funny caricatures their unique sense of humour is definitely something to bestow! However, as the album progresses the vocals begin to falter and as a result the strength of their songs starts to weaken somewhat, and no matter how much boundless energy is injected the album as a whole starts to get a bit patchy.

That said, _‘Yeah right sure’ _is still an enjoyable debut showcasing startling potential for these Norfolk-based kids.
