The Futureheads

1-2-3-NUL!

Label:

bstefani by Becky Stefani June 18th, 2001

Here's the deal - The Futureheads are the coolest boy rock 'n' roll GANG in the North East. They make my heart swell and my ears buzz. When they play their songs kids either gasp in wonderment or dance themselves dizzy. These are all good things. And so, the arrival of their brand spanking new demo '1-2-3-nul' is the cause of much giddy excitement.

First track 'Park Inn' is a statement of INTENT - one whole minute (!) of sexy-discordant-energy. The gee-tars clank and rattle and fizz like a robot coming to life and like all the best pop nuggets it's all over before it starts - punkalicious! 'Tearing Holes' sees our young heroes welding the spikiest, spunkiest guitars in the West to some gorgeous Beach Boys-esque vocals, while 'Le Garage' is the song that Scarfo never wrote - noisy, rugged, URGENT and tastier than a big slice of lemon meringue pie.

Last song (boo!) 'Carnival Kids' is an indie club dance floor filler in waiting. Twist and shout vocals, TUNES, NOISE, VOLUME! And a stadium-sized chant-a-long ending that stomps all over your unsuspecting heart with starry-eyed abandon. Come on!

There's so much love in this music. So much ambition fighting to get out and start a ruck and take on the UNIVERSE. Watch their dust!
