Plans and Apologies

Demo

Label:

_kp_ by Kate Price April 3rd, 2002

Over the past few weeks, I have acquired some of the most stunning demo/self released CDs possibly imaginable, and this exquisite little 2-track created by Derby based Plans and Apologies is right on the top of the pile. ‘Close Your Eyes and Wish You Were…’ and ‘Ginger Jimmy Jackson’ manage to fill over twelve minutes with captivating, moving instrumental beauty. Yes, Plans and Apologies are one of those bands. Y’know, the ones who have guitar lines and effects to die for and instrumental interludes that echo on for a minimum of two minutes at a time; the kind of bands that I just simply cannot get enough of.

Plans and Apologies are probably fettling around the same kind of musical beginnings where a certain DiS favourite, Oceansize, were when they first started, three years ago. The guitar parts have been fastidiously worked into minor musical masterpieces hinting at everything from scintillating intricate raindrops to mantra formed furious attacks. The use of subtle vocal harmonies, despite being perhaps a bit poorly dictated, still adds a definitive amount of further perspective and texture to already complexly formed enchanting compositions.

If Plans and Apologies can keep this standard up for a whole album, and perhaps combine their existing intricate beauty with some more commercially viable hooks and riffs, the music industry is in for a real treat. For anyone who’s currently getting excited as I am about this new wave of post-rock-meets-emo style rawkin’, Plans and Apologies are definitely worth a look in!
