Cousteau

Wish You Were Her

Label: Palm Pictures Release Date: 25/03/2001

sara_e by Sara E April 3rd, 2001

In a world constantly hailing Buckley wannabes, enters a gruff voiced man and a band of seeming lounge musicians. The band assembles, opinions are settled and then the onslaught can begin. Low pitched growls turn into smooth soul vocals with piercing clarity, backed by an ever changing musical backdrop of epic proportions.

'Wish You Were Her' flits between the sinister and the pureness of despair. A simple tale of lost love followed by B-sides 'To Know Her' and 'The Cuttlefish Walks The Cuttlefish Waltz', which any self respecting musician should be crying themself into a drunken slumber for not having written these tunes first.

Everyone wants a new flavour of the month, yet Cousteau and their jazz influenced rock seem to be overlooked everytime. Cousteau deserve to be superstars the world over or maybe just in the hearts and minds of those willing to pretend with them.
