Camera Obscura

I Love My Jean

Label: Elefant Records Release Date: 21/03/2005

7930
domgourlay by Dom Gourlay March 22nd, 2005

Camera Obscura have been making an artform of simplistic, cutesie jangle-pop for aeons now. So, as the times are-a-changing, the question begs: where do they go next?

Not surprisingly, they've chosen to stay true to their original ideals, with the old adage that if it's not broken then why fix it ringing in their ears.

The only difference is that the words to 'I Love My Jean' and the third track on this single 'A Red Red Rose' were actually written almost three centuries ago by Robert Burns. Still Camera Obscura have done an impeccable job at creating a cover version of something that's never actually been covered in this sense of the word before, which surely makes them at least a dozen times better than *G4* in anyone's book.
