The States aren't really in the best climate for "good" music (bands like Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock dominate our airwaves). That might just be changing very soon. Right now, if you're in a band, you want to use the words "Sounds like Jeff Buckley/Radiohead" in your bio. But not too many bands can actually boast that the singer is formerly a member of Buckley's band ... except for Ours.

It's amusing how the UK is churning out Buckley-ish bands these days. There was Muse who -- with exception to the quasi-Buckley contemporaries, Radiohead or maybe even Travis -- did it first. Then there was Coldplay who charted highest. Then there was JJ72 who did it youngest. These three bands just cracked open the floodgates that are letting bands like Elbow seep through. But what about the USA? Buckley was, after all, from the colonies.

Ours singer isn't trying to be his former bandmate. He might be the spitting image of Jeff, and he might sort of sound like Jeff, and he might kind of write like Jeff, but he's not trying to be Jeff. Rather, his voice might get mistaken for U2's Bono before Jeff's. Bono through Jeff maybe... if that makes sense. It does, and it's beautiful.

"I'm A Monster," "Drowning," and "Bleed" are three such amazing tracks that Coldplay better start thinking about getting a bit more exciting. In "Drowning" the vocalist wails in ways that only Buckley has. Not high pitched but just right out screaming that would have Chris Martin jealous. "Bleed"'s haunting sound is sexy and velvety. It's in this song that Bono should really seek a lawsuit for voice high-jacking. A beautiful day indeed.
