Quite where the 45s have suddenly appeared from is beyond me. There I was sitting, eagerly awaiting a Cooper Temple Clause Reading warm up show. The first band were out of the way, and shortly after, a bunch of youngsters took to the stage, going under the name of The 45s.
Assuming them to be mere locals, they did very little to make me think differently. Each audience member claimed a free demo CD at the end of the evening, and here it is.
How do I put it...The 45s are, quite frankly, a britpop band. They are plaguing us with nothing of any relevancy to anyone other than a mere Shed 7 fan. And would you believe it? They are supporting Shed 7 on their next tour, playing at larger venues around the country culminating at Brixton Academy. Proposterous!
Need I carry on? Jangly guitars, Witter'esque vocals and little else. Maybe they'd like to think the lyrics are intelligent? Twee? No, they tell a story of a young bloke in as cliched a manner as possible.
There is little need to name titles as they all sound the same. I am bewildered that this band are signed and will be playing to such large audiences.
'Is this pop?' they ask on their flyers. It's crap...does that answer their question? I hope so.
