As Leonardo Di Caprio will tell you, the role of dreams in the 2010 zeitgeist is not to be underestimated. Grumpy blockbusters aside, though, it's pretty undeniable that the sensation of what goes on between lights out and alarms bleeping has become a true cultural force in the past year, with more and more bands not only sounding half asleep, but also directly writing from their night time experiences.

As commented upon as the chillwave genre is, its existence comes to make more sense when you see its physical origins in the subconcious thoughts of acts like Beach House and Toro Y Moi than the West Coast beaches and stoner circles you might naturally assume. The dewy eyed sounds of these acts is political too, in as much as withdrawal and a refusal to comment can be considered political. By switching off and not responding, the current crop of bands are clearly making a statement about the world we all live in – that it scares them and they want to shut their eyes to it all.

Twin Sister understand this concept and have that feeling of falling into slumber's comfy grip down to a tee on their début UK release – a collection of their two previous EPs. Vampires With Dreaming Kids dates back to 2008 and is a four song collection of the Long Island five piece's earliest material whereas Color Your Life is the blog blazin' hit from earlier this year. Together they have been reissued by Domino ahead of what will eventually no doubt become a fully fledged debut album. However the two EPs don't exactly have wildly differing personalities, meaning that you can make a neat ten track record from the two.

Ideally played in one long swoop, Twin Sister are best at washing gentle waves, creating an atmosphere and feeling rather than having attention grabbing moments and specifics. Like the aforementioned Beach House, they marry beautifully fragile vocals to a woozy musical backdrop – Twin Sister opting for a light funk and occasional scratchy guitar to compliment Abdrea Estella's breathy delivery. The young group (average age 22) are undeniably somewhat twee, as a brief glimpse of the 'Color Your Life' artwork will testify. However, they are far from defined by their fey sensibilities. Just as much as they are likely to coo about making things “feel brand new” amidst 'Lady Daydream's chiming strings, Twin Sister can reverse things entirely and drop five minutes of disorientating ambient noise and running water effects in the middle of a short EP. 'Galaxy Plateau' and 'The Other Side Of Your Face' hint that there is more to the groups thought process than might initially meet the eye.

Though they undeniably compliment one another, the key difference between these two EPs is the clear progress between what was written in 2008 and it's more recent sibling. Color Your Life uses the Vampires.. blueprint and plays with it, adding in space and a sense of bedroom produced grandeur to the intimate whispers and pillow-talking verses. All of this renders these two EPs a perfect introduction to a band who manage to take a sound that is saturated and breathe new life into it just by being able to dream big.
