Anyone who’s ever been in a band will probably turn green with envy when they hear how The Ataris got signed. OK, roughly 4 years ago vocalist Kris Roe goes to see The Vandals & gives them a tape of his band. A few weeks later Vandal’s bassist [& Kung Fu boss] gives him a ring and asks him to record for his label. He gets invited to tour with some of his favourite bands [NOFX, Blink 182, MxPx etc…] and becomes Fat Mike’s favourite new band.
Anyone who isn’t just slightly jealous obviously hasn’t been in a [punk] band before. ‘End Is Forever is their fourth full length & carries on their teenage pop-punk bounce with 14 songs about girls, love, broken hearts, teen frustrations and er, girls. Which isn’t really anything new is it?
What is new is the fact that they seem to have geared more towards a rocky Foo Fighters sound especially in ‘Giving Up On Love’, although ‘Song For A Mix Tape’ shows they haven’t quite broken way from that SoCal groove, which is reassuring to most fans. Compared to previous albums this is pretty average and a lot tamer but quality songs like ‘Bad Case of Broken Heart’ shows they haven’t quite lost their touch just yet!
Definitely worth checking out anyway.
