There is a juggernaut of noise chugging it’s way towards me, kicking up a dirt-storm not seen since Artimus Pyle, Pale Horse or Isis *dared impose on my mental state and pummel me into a long-haired, stoner-metal dementia. Yes, it’s _that _good! I’m listening to track 5, _‘Testing The Good of Man’_*, as I have been for the past 20 minutes now, on repeat as it guides me slowly into it’s down-tuned sludge and blocks me from anything remotely ‘overground’ sounding. No, this is most definitely underground and contains some of the most finely executed heaviness to have raised its ugly head in recent years.
Fighting alongside the monotonous gravelley guitar scrapes in _‘Descend Within’ _are a medley of guitar and bass hooks, building layers of intensity that really send shivers up your spine. What’s even more scary is the fact that in this netherworld of heaviness is female guitarist Laura Pleasants, although this should really be more encouraging considering the lack of females involved in this strand of extreme hardcore.
Though this release is marred by the tragic death of vocalist / bassist Brian Duke during its recording its standard is exceptional and definitely worth your attention. Check their website for more info.
