These are unashamedly one of my favourite bands, so when I was reliably informed they had gone a bit more 'pop' with their new stuff, to say I was a little preturbed would be an understatement. But I need not have worried.
The new single has it all. Firstly it has a kick ass foottap-tastic tune with space age keyboard sounds (which is a good thing). Secondly, it is just made to be remixed so then it gets played in dance clubs and there is a chance I will find it in a pub on a dodgy jukebox almong the turgid crap they have in them (also, a good thing). Lastly, it has Luke Haines, former Auteur and a musical god and it has Sarah Nixey, THE complete package when it comes to women, mentally, physically and most importantly, vocally.
Although slightly euro-pop, as always Sarah's angelic vocals lift this song into a special place that very few bands can reach. This is commercially accessiable, radio friendly and yet still very cleary BBR at their finest.
To say this is a return to form would be unfair, they were never off form, they just lay dormant for a few years before hitting us hard again, maybe this time the jolt will wake the music buying public up to probably the best band the UK has produced in the last decade!
