It's strange how the passing of the musical seasons can dramatically alter your perception. Path Records' Singleskin offer finely crafted melodic rock which a few years ago might have been seen as one pop duck in a massive AM drivetime pool. Now, however, it sounds vibrant.
The order of the day is radio lovin' keyboard-driven indie rock. At times, 'Even The Saints Can Get It Wrong' sounds like a less musically constrained Charlatans, and lumps a big fistful of tune in your face in a finely winsome style. All the influences are there: Big Star, Big Country and James Taylor, with a dash of modern Americana thrown in for good measure.
It doesn't really manage to soar past those titans of tune, but it's early days and the promise is as apparent as the pop hooks. Rockin', in a non-rock style.
