The most brilliant underrated author of our times has crafted another amazing novel together. Koontz began his career with stories that were wildly imaginative and had you believing in the unbelievable. Then he wrote Dark Rivers of the Heart, a techno-thriller with horror undertones, Koontz started to mature as an author and rather than create another monster for the reader to despise and fear, he made us fear something closer to home: humans, albeit psychotic, deranged, vehement ones.

Throughout his career Koontz’s characters have been great to read, you wish you could meet the people he writes about in his stories, they’re funny, clever, sexy but also evil, sick and very very bad. After DROTH however he went up a notch and began creating even better characters and stories, most notably Christopher Snow’s adventures in Fear Nothing and Seize The Night.

Koontz’s new novel cannot be summarised easily but it involves a child prodigy called Bartholomew and a sick, twisted guy called Cain Jr and how their lives are destined to inexplicably cross each others. The main theme here is fate and destiny, about how every little thing one person does in life has a chain reaction and will ultimately effect the lives of others. More tame and thoughtful than his previous novels, FTCOHE is an engrossing read that makes you think about your own life and whose it will change.
