The cinematic sheen of Broadcast, the scatter-beats of Magnetophone, taxidermist weirdness from Pram and now the refined electronics of Grandscope have ousted the ghost of Black Sabbath.

All too often distant and cold, Grandscope have instilled some humanity back into the modern electronica scene thanks to some lucid melody and a tune. That’s right, glitch-techno fans, a tune! Remember them? They’re all the rage in Japan apparently.

Don’t for one minute though think that Grandscope have sold-out the golden analogue rulebook. There’s the sultry use of suave Parisian vocals to add an element of European class while 'Tricolore' is packed with all the noises you could wish for from the single twist of an oscillation knob.

As if to prove they’ve got more tricks up their sleeve than Paul Daniels, b-side 'I’ll Find You' slips into something more comfortable. To compare it to Air interpreting what the Terminator 2 soundtrack would have sounded like had it been produced by Stereolab is of course an absurd thing to say. But I’ve said it. So there.
