Mudvayne

Mudvayne

Label: Epic Records

237
tbezer by Terry Bezer April 5th, 2001

You know the ones. The prats in the make-up. That band that everyone seems to take there time out to give a little bit of a ribbing because of the way they look. Well, surprising to you and certainly to me, this is actually one hell of a record. If you're fed up with the poncing about that is mainstream Nu-metal then Mudvayne could well be the band for you. Uncompromising in there brutality and even the odd bit of melody, if you decide to listen without prejudice, Mudvayne are actually a killer band. I can't believe I'm writing this.....

If, like me, you took one look at a grown man playing guitar resembling something along the lines of a lady-bug and thought that it wasn't for you then you could be very mistaken. Mudvayne attack everyone of there songs with the sort of bone-crushing vigor not seen since nine blokes in boiler suits were seen about the place. From the second that the 'vayne detonate the bomb that is 'Dig' there are a lot of things that become very apparent. They are very heavy, very talented and if you can look past the fact that the drummer's make up makes him look like a hum-big with arms, they are very good. 'Death Blooms' is the best example of Mudvayne's better qualities. An addictive vocal line, riffs that sound like Satan himself has just picked up a six-string and a pummeling beat. '-1' also boasts a sense of dynanicism that can take you from the subtelty of an angel to the letahal attack of a beast in a second. And as musicians Mudvayne are absolutely faultless. Kud, Gurgg, Spag and er....Ryan produce one of the tightest, loudest and original sounds currently being displayed in the big wide world of rock. Not bad for a band who's bass player fashions his look from Beelzibub.

They are NOT Slipknot, they are NOT for the feint hearted and......OK, well they do look stupid. Look past this and you have a solid record by anyones standards.
