Towers... Cambridge gig chaos
agibbons by Anthony Gibbons February 11th, 2005
Cock rock peroxide punk types Towers Of London, hailed by the NME as 'London's most controversial band', caused chaos at their Cambridge gig tonight (February 10th).

At a packed gig at the city’s Anglia Polytechnic University, frontman Donny Tourette (pictured... and yes that really is his name) ripped down the cloth covering the ceiling and proceeded to swing on a projector suspended from flimsy-looking wooden beams. The projector was left dangling precariously over the audience and band which didn’t stop Tourette from trying to rip the offending item from the ceiling.

When venue security tried to intervene Tourette indulged in pushing and shoving with security. Towards the end of the set, venue staff switched the lights on early prompting boos from the audience but Towers Of London were allowed to finish a highly charged set.

The band and their management now face a hefty bill, and possible criminal charges including criminal damage and disturbing the peace although this has yet to be confirmed by Cambridge police.

Greenmind Promotions who staged the gig told DiS they were upset at proceedings. When asked to comment a spokesman would only say “The police are on their way”, which says it all really. There is no comment forthcoming so far from APU Student Union nor Towers Of London.

Towers... are no strangers to a little bit of bad behaviour: on this tour alone they've fought with their own audience, and paid out £500 to Southampton's Joiner's Arms after pulling down part of the ceiling. Once, they 'lost' guitarist Rev when a burgular stole the band's van in which he was sleeping. God only knows what will happen when they support Fightstar in Nottingham!

The Towers Of London tour continues in support of forthcoming new single 'On A Noose'. For dates click here

It’s unlikely The Ordinary Boys gig up the road at The Junction was this exciting (we asked around - it wasn't) although we’re told Phil Jupitus was in attendance. Big deal.
