Mel Galley, former guitar player with Whitesnake, is terminally ill with cancer.
The 59-year-old, currently residing in Cannock, Staffordshire, first spoke publicly of his illness in a MySpace ‘blog post outlining how he had to postpone a couple of shows due to the discovery of a tumour in his oesophagus.
Now Galley has spoken to Midlands paper the Express & Star about the full extent of his diagnosis and remains remarkably positive in spite of his condition.
"I've had a fantastic life,” said Galley. “I have been very lucky. I have seen some great bands, and played with many great musicians.
"I have enjoyed some tremendous experiences. I am thankful that I can say a proper goodbye to all the friends I have made, who are now rallying round me."
Galley is due to turn 60 on the 8th of March, but celebrations have been moved forward to next week.
