We Start Fires release debut e.p
athomas by Andy (quirk) Thomas June 13th, 2002
Following the demise of Venus In Furs - indie circuit staples and Evening Session favourites - singer/songwriter Becky and drummer Ashley are back with a new band, We Start Fires.

The four-piece, comprising Becky (vocals/guitar), Laura (keyboards/synth/vocals), Ryan (bass guitar) and Ashley (drums) have been compared to Menace-era Elastica, The Breeders, Ash and Stereolab. While retaining the melodic *suss* of their previous band, We Start Fires is an altogether more interesting proposition - a perfect alt-indie-pop group for the post millennium!

The band's debut e.p 'How to be a Lady' is a mix of alternative pop, lush acoustic song-smithery and riot grrrl inspired rock and is released on the band's own label Head Girl Records on June 17th.

To accompany the release of the e.p the band will be playing gigs across the country this summer, including a performance at Ladyfest London. This festival will take place between the 1st and 4th of August at The Garage, Highbury, London.

For more information on We Start Fires e-mail HeadGirlRecords@aol.com, or visit the bands website at www.westartfires.com. 'How to be a Lady' is available mail-order from Head Girl Records, PO Box 127, Darlington, DL1 3YD. Price is £4 including p&p (UK), cheques payable to 'Head Girl Records'.
