M.I.A carries on, claims Google and Facebook were developed by the CIA
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater June 1st, 2010

One thing that you can't say about M.I.A is that she doesn't chat an awful lot of nonsense and rubbish. It's been a busy few days for her, what with the ultra-petty, childish and insecure actions of posting New York Times journalist Lynn Hirschberg's phone number on Twitter, following a less-than-positive profile piece in the American publication.

But that wasn't all. She also wrote and posted a song about it on her godawfully designed website SLASH blog, which tends to crash your browser if your cursor so much as hovers over a hyperlink to it. Visit it here, where you can listen to 'Haters' which includes the line "Why do you journalists have to be thick as shit?".

Yeah, so I think we're all over that. Nearly all of us, anyway. Now, in an interview with Nylon magazine she's continued interest around her, this time claiming that Facebook and Google were developed by the CIA (via NME.com), which is an interesting take on things, I'll give her that.

I mean, sure, we can understand privacy issues and it's clearly something Facebook are worried about too, right? But it's a fair old jump from that to this accusation. She told the magazine:

"All governments are connected to Google. Governments can shift their search engines so only what they want you to see comes up. I want kids to be aware of this digital circumstance."

"Everyone on the internet is like, 'Oh my God, come and join Facebook!' They’re all so optimistic… and really, everyone is fucking you up behind the screens. And I don't like that. It makes it difficult for me to interact with my fans knowing that. Google and Facebook were developed by the CIA, and when you're on there, you have to know that."

Hokay hokay. Where next, Maya? Would the government really want Google to post an interactive Pacman game on its homepage. I think not. But...hang on...if my browser always crashes on your website...I use Google Chrome...HELLO! I've cracked it!
