Thom Yorke wants you to make a giant Cnut
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater November 22nd, 2010

Thom Yorke is a man who likes to challenge himself in many ways, which probably explains his latest project, in collaboration with Stanley Donwood, who has designed many a record sleeve for Radiohead, you should know and/or remember. This one's a human art installation, I guess (via NME.com).

The project is under the banner of Earth 350 and, we think, is pretty neat. Do you ever remember studying King Canute/Cnut/Knut at school, all those years ago? You know, the Viking King of England, Norway, Denmark etc. who tried to stop the tide from coming in or something. He thought didn't think he was that good, though. He also looked a bit like this:

From http://corriecanuck.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/cnut13.jpg

Anyway, the project Yorke is involved in is trying to recreate this. In Brighton. This Saturday.

He posted this message on Radiohead's website saying:

WANTED 2000 people who want to be part of human King Cnut type image facing the sea that is visible from space as part of the Earth350

People who want to be part of it need to register here: http://earth.350.org/locations/england/

So yes, that's the gist of it. If you want to be involved in the project then head here. I assume there are some places left, but I haven't checked. If you do turn up, however, you have to wear black and also be quite...weatherproof, as "they" say that the conditions are an integral part of it. I shall not be going.
