When a recent promotional recruitment video for the Edinburgh-based Highlanders Regiment, shot during a recent exercise by the 600-strong regiment in Kenya showing soldiers performing exercises in desert fatigues and carrying rifles, was shown in shopping centres and schools Oasis weren't best pleased.
Hainly because it used 2 Oasis tracks "Wonderwall" and "Hello", and having not asked for legal permission to use the tracks, Some 300 Videos have been recalled when it transpired that the music was used without gaining permission from the songwriter, Noel Gallagher. Oasis lawyers asked for them to cease useage or legal action would result.
An MOD spokesman said: "It was to show what the regiment had been up to in recent months but we didn't realise we needed permission to use the songs until it was brought to our their attention. Their record label was contacted by the regiment to seek permission but it was turned down and so we've had to recall every one of the videos."
Likely story.... don't you think? I wonder where these people were when they read about how much money the Rolling Stones got paid for the use of "Satisfaction" in a computer advert? Or maybe they should have read this first!
