Pressure group Pride in Sheffield are in the process of putting together a business plan to secure the NCPM’s role as a performance and exhibition space. The group say they are campaigning for a “positive and sustainable future for the National Centre for Popular Music as a public centre for cultural and creative activities.”
The centre, which is owned by development group Yorkshire Forward, is currently the subject of a bid from Sheffield Hallam University, who want the building to become the new home for their student’s union.
Since closing as a visitor attraction, the NCPM has provided the venue for Sheffield’s Barfly club, as well as housing community radio station Sheffield Live.
Yorkshire Forward have told Pride in Sheffield they have until the end of November to submit their alternative business plan for the centre’s future.
