Silver Sun say "You Can't Kill Rock'n'Roll"
misterben by Mr Ben May 19th, 2003
Silver Sun's frontman James Broad has announced more details about the band's forthcoming third album.

Further to our earlier report, DiS can reveal that the recording of Silver Sun's long-awaited third album is now complete. Contrary to earlier indications, singer and guitarist James Broad has recorded most of the parts himself, with just a little bit of help from others in places. On the decision to record without the full band, Broad comments that "I would like to have the others contribute to it more but they are busy doing other stuff - when it comes to playing live I will have to try to round them all up I suppose."

The first single from the album will probably be 'Bubblegum', and will be the first Silver Sun record to be released since 1998's 'Neo Wave', which was met with a mixed response from fans and critics alike. Broad sees the new album as an improvement on the band's second album, explaining that "It's got more synths & other stuff on it than before and it's not as flat sounding as Neowave (which I think kind of sounds removed from your head when you listen to it - the new one will feel like it is immediately in your pituitary gland and is about to burst your spleen)."

Artwork has been provided by Jeff Cummins, who designed the much-celebrated cover art for the band's self-titled debut, and although label details are yet to be confirmed, it seems likely that it'll be released through the band's own label at first, then through someone else when things start to kick off. As the band's lineup is not 100% secure, there is no indication of any imminent live appearances.

Songs that have been recorded for the album (although they may not all appear on the final record) are:

Bubblegum
She's with the band
She wants a puppy, she'll have a puppy
Found You In a Dream
Immediate
Lie Back and Think Of England
Can't Get You Out Of My Head
Jody
Pipsqueak
You Can't Kill Rock N Roll
Poppin
Garlic
Lies

While those titles suggest that a classic bit of Silver Sun bubblegum pop could be in the offing, Broad has offered some further hints on what the album will sound like: "In terms of sound I would say that it's fuzzy like the first one, varied like the second and generally is fucking excellent." Let's hope so.
