Disarm DSEi : Anti-Militarisation Benefit
holliy by holliy May 31st, 2003
A benefit gig against militarisation is taking place in London at the London Mean Fiddler on Wednesday June 11th.

The gig, on behalf of the Disarm DSEi protest group, will feature the bands Conflict, Inner Terrestrials, Bug Central and Flatpig. Tickets are £6 each and are available in advance by calling the ticket information line on 07765 615 841. Doors are at 7pm.

The Defense Systems Equipment international arms fair is the largest European arms fair of 2003, taking place in London from 9-12 September, allowing delegates from invited countries to buy bombs, military planes and other weapons of war. The protest group Disarm DSEi is planning a week of protest and resistance to coincide with this year's fair, as well as targeting the businesses behind it in the months leading up to the event. Actions planned so far include a mass march on the Saturday before the fair begins, a day of peaceful protest on September 9th and a day of direct action on the 10th, with further events to be planned closer to the time.

As their press release says, “Benefit gigs are a major source of income for protests generally, and Disarm DSEi is no exception”, and extra benefit gigs are planned from now up until the fair begins. They’re looking for bands and artists to get involved with the events - mail DSEi for information on how you can get involved, or send a blank e-mail to DSEi Yahoo Group to join the Disarm DSEi fundraising group.
