Electric 6 - Split! Reform! *Exclusive: Dick Valentine speaks to DiS*
rpearce by Rebeckah Pearce June 10th, 2003
After gate-crashing the Top 10 again by entering at No. 5 with 'Gay Bar', Electric Six have confirmed that three members have left the band.

Guitarists Surge Joebot, The Rock 'N Roll Indian and bassist Disco have parted from the band leaving the founding members, vocalist Dick Valentine and drummer M remaining, along with synth player Tait Nucleus.

It appears there were "temperamental differences" after the pressures of success got too much. Tensions within the band reached "boiling point" because of their manic touring schedule.

However, Electric Six fans should not fear as three new members have been recruited. The departed musicians have been replaced by Johnny Na$hional, The Colonel and Frank Lloyd Bonaventure, who was in an earlier incarnation of the band.

DiS spoke exclusively to frontman, Dick Valentine, and this is what he had to say:

"There have always been differences between the members of the band who have departed and those who remain. The differences included how to approach this band, how to approach music, and how to approach life in general. For a long time, we viewed these differences as one of our strengths and, as a local band in Detroit playing maybe once a month, we were able to get away with it.

But now that we are playing 5 shows a week on various continents, the differences had become counterproductive and a boiling point was reached. I am confident that all those involved wish each other well. And now M, Tait and myself are looking forward to playing with some old friends of ours in Johnny Na$hional, Frank Lloyd Bonaventure and The Colonel. The first set of shows with the new lineup went about three times as well as we might have expected and we are having a blast."

Catch the brand new E6 when they play the Game On skateboarding festival on June 22 at the Millenium Dome. Check here for our ticket winning competition...
