The opening night of the resurrected Lollapalooza rock festival in Ionia, Michigan was cancelled because of 'problems with the size of headliner Jane's Addiction's stage.'
A PR for the fest said it was "due to staging and technical difficulties with the event site."
Bollocks.
Korina Haga at the Ionia Fair Association said, "The way they went about it was very unprofessional,it is not a problem with the facilities." She noted that Ionia Fair accommodated 25,000 Metallica fans a couple of years ago and added. "I think we could handle Jane's Addiction fans."
Only 4,000 $56 tickets had been sold.
Sidelined since 1998, this year's 28-date Lollapalooza not only features the Perry Farrell-fronted Jane's, but also Audioslave, Incubus, Queens of the Stone Age, Jurassic 5, the Donnas and A Perfect Circle.
A US trade mag grunted, "the Lollapalooza name doesn't carry the weight it carried five years ago and the popularity it once enjoyed at the height of the grunge era has been supplanted somewhat by the likes of such upstarts as Ozzfest, the Vans Warped Tour, H.O.R.D.E., Smokin' Grooves, Lilith Fair and Area One. "
Jane's new single 'Just Because' is out soon in the UK, with a new LP, 'Strays' to follow in August.
