Chelmsford: New Venue On The Way
rubbafish by Colin Weston August 16th, 2003
A new venue is to open in Chelmsford before the end of the year.

Called The Cave, the venue is a conversion of the arches by Chelmsford train station on Viaduct Road. The venue is expected to be open by November with work to begin on the conversion in the next few weeks.

During a phone conversation we had with venue owner, Joe Ferrari, we were told that while at the weekend the focus is to be on hip-hop, during the week there will be live music with almost all gigs being priced at £1.50 (before 9pm) with 3 bands on a standard bill. On top of that, most bottled drinks are to be priced at £2.00 (which is one of the cheapest in the area, trust me!) which is a bonus!

The capacity of the venue is still pending confirmation from the local council but is expected to be 500-800, which will easily be one of the biggest regular live music venues in the region.

This is great news considering the current situation regarding several venues in the area such as the Harlow Square and Colchester Soundhouse, who are both facing difficulties as previously reported on DiS.

There is a basic website up and running for The Cave, which you can get to by clicking here, but the fully functional site is not due until closer to the venue's opening time.
