In the week they release their 20-minutes of beauty ep that is 'Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do', Icelandic ambient wunderkidz Sigur Rós update their website with news about the follow-up to 2002's, frankly, amazing, ( ) - if you don't own this, stop reading and go and buy it!
The album, likely to come out in Spring 2005, is currently being recorded at the band's own studio, Sundlaugin - infamously a converted swimming pool, which according to those kings of Nerdonia over at Pitchfork is where 'In a Safe Place' the new Sub Pop from The Album Leaf was recorded. And it features Jónsi Thor Birgisson guests on the track 'Over the Pond'. And it sounds rather like Sigur Ros - which is never a bad thing in our book.
In the world of soundtracks, Kjartan Sveinsson has just soundtracked an upcoming short entitled Síðsti Barinn ("The Last Pub"), while the entire band composed music to accompany a short film entitled 'The Loch Ness Kelpie'. It's 12½-minute animated film, which will be screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival and there's a minute preview over on Sigur Rós' website: www.sigur-ros.com
And yes, this album will be out on EMI.
