God Only Knows why they chose this name but musically, *God Only Knows *travel the post-rock electronica route, creating a contorted sound that could very well act as the soundtrack to an episode of Lonely Planet, the echoing beats and atmospheric sounds and noises conjuring up Gersky-like images of mysterious cultures far away.
_‘Reflections In Natural History’ _exemplifies this well, twinkling guitars shining down upon a hazy, lethargic distortion that manages a slight build-up before fading out some six minutes in. The absence of vocals here allows you to shut your eyes, lie back and allow yourself to become fully absorbed into their music, which suggests that live some form of visuals would supplement the music well.
Comparisons can probably be made to Mogwai, Meanwhile Back In Communist Russia *and *Aphex Twin, _‘Plane/Plain’ _giving a noticeable nod to their less chaotic moments. There is some incredible potential on this demo and fans of the aforementioned bands would definitely find a home for this in their CD collection.
A little more experimentation with samples and dynamics would be welcoming and no doubt will be made in the future but aside from that this is very good.
