Having spent the past few days attempting to catch up on the pile of demos that became an untouched mini-fortress during exam months, my latest discovery comes in the form of a sunshine-in-a-CD demo from indie kids, Eleaven.
These three tracks seem to somehow capture the sunlight as it shimmers and glitters on the water surface, the summer smell of fresh grass and wild flowers, the relaxed feeling of contentment and no responsibility; the wind in the hair and the sun on the face. Three carefree, uplifting, guitar-pop smiley tracks that seem to take you on a hazy trip back to that summer, so many years ago, whether or not that summer actually existed.
Avoiding a niggling urge to compare them to bands in the whole MBA/DawnParade/Sufferkiss/Antihero scene, I’ll throw in a few references to The Pixies and The Cure, perhaps even a vague likening to The Thrills - you get the picture. Despite sounding as though recorded in some ones kitchen on a cheap dictaphone (and maybe it was) Eleaven have without a doubt made a sugary little demo to be proud of. Promising stuff indeed, watch this space…
