Coming on like a cross between Lost Prophets and Vex Red, the vocals in Pitchblend are what raise this British nu-metal band above a lot of the trash in the genre. Opening track "Pulse" works around a rhythmic riff and restrained crooning vocals building up to a more melodic chorus. Whilst pretty formulaic, the song simply works as a listenable, moshable pop-metal tune without whining rapping and a more mellow guitar solo taking place of the standard DJ and sample scratching. Final track "Driver" is far more mellow, with a melancholic picked guitar developing into a very old-school solo and more wall-of-sound outro. Pitchblend, whilst wearing there influences on their sleeve, do mix elements of nu-metal and more "classical" style guitar solos, creating an accessible sound without too many generic clichés. This, though not breaking any new ground, is a promising start and suggests a good future as they evolve.
