Idiots with barre chords.
That’s not what sets Johnny Panic apart from the rest of the rawk crowd. No, ‘Burn Your Youth’ is a standard slab of big chorused Kerrang! TV riffing. The sort that any idiot with five digits on one hand can play. It is however a very catchy standard slab of big chorused Kerrang! TV riffing. Add to that a commendable narrative nod towards the dangers of depression and suicide, communicated with the help of some fantastic Bon Jovi ‘Woah-oh-oh’ backing vocals, and we can give Johnny Panic a gold star for effort and enthusiasm and social awareness. Perhaps even a bronze one for craft and technical ability.
