From the heaving incestuous bosom of Americana, former Mercury Rev infantryman Adam Snyder released his debut long-player 'Across The Pond' last year on David Gray’s HTI label.
Whilst vocalists of a similar artistic persuasion bare voices like a hellcat scraped down a blackboard (though wound round lustrous soundscapes in which this becomes perversely ethereal), Snyder seems in dire need of a steaming black coffee and an ice cold shower. 'Two Moons' has none of the bi-polar swoops of Mercury Rev’s recent records and instead settles into a fuzzy lethargy of the perfectly pleasant, but not terribly exciting.
Although one would never wish ill on anybody of an artistic inclination, it is difficult to not conclude that what Adam Snyder most needs is a woman to really f**k him over and break his heart. For all his technical prowess, 'Two Moons' sways (unsurprisingly) dangerously close to ‘moon in june’ territory and his attempts at country-blues on the b-side hardly evoke the primal howl of Leadbelly.
