Jet Johnson

Donnie

Label: Seriously Groovy Release Date: 23/06/2003

athomas by Andy (quirk) Thomas June 18th, 2003

Donny Osmond clearly made an impression on a certain generation, However, this has to be the first song I've heard dedicated to said little boy. Jet Johnson can probably get away with this though, being as they are a "supergroup" of sorts - featuring members of Reynolds, Peachfuzz and Billy Mahonie.

Perhaps rather surprisingly, it's a pleasant sort of tune, as a shy and sweet female vocal skips along in a somewhat St Etienne direction, married with chiming guitars and roomy sounding drums, all wrapped up in the warm glow of people who neither want to shag you or tell you how awful their life is.

So why don't I hate this? Usually I hate anything that doesn't seem to be at least trying to provoke a reaction, but the trick is that 'Donnie', does provoke a reaction, a small, subtle one of appreciation for the little things in life for a change. Perhaps a record for whose who like mild mannered indie all-dayers held in places like The Scala and The Spitz, but absorbing nonetheless.
