From the photo alone The Cornerstones appear to be a rather hateful little outfit. Five mid-twenties west London indie-boys with a typical scruffy hair/nice jacket/shirt combo going on. Not only is keyboard player Glenn Perryman's dad an ex-Spurs player (I'm a Saints fan, the hatred goes with the territory), but they've also 'enjoyed' support slots with Finley Quaye. Ergh.
However, try as I might, I don't hate it. For all its lousy Liam-like lyrics ("Send me into space/take me from this place/smack me in the face"), it essentially sounds like 'Together Alone'-era Crowded House; heart-warming and wonderfully simple guitar-led pop. So, whilst 'Smack Me In The Face' may not be anything inspired creatively-speaking (which is something of a shame considering their three-year existence), The Cornerstones are quite the charmers nonetheless.
