Vanlustbäder

Power Makes Sense

Label: Nomadic Music Release Date: 09/05/2005

Mike_Diver by Mike Diver May 4th, 2005

Vanlustbäder: Aussies with a penchant for powerful garage rock riffs and a taste for all things retro. A comparison to a three-lettered outfit of a similar ilk is unavoidable, so let's jump right into cliché and make it. Jet. There, it's said. I can do it again - Jet. Jet. Jet. Jet.

If alarm bells aren't ringing by now then you're a person of highly questionable taste. Granted, Vanlustbäder mix it up a little by incorporating some sobriety into their otherwise tiresome swagger-rock - the standout 'It's All About' is perfectly pleasant pop-rock- but the only sound heard for the duration of lead track 'Scorcher' is that of a horse being flogged until its eyes meet with those of its maker. The lyrics are utterly abysmal, too. Really, they have Liam sounding as lexically loose as Sage Francis.

If we all ignore them, they'll go away... ssssh.
