Bikini Atoll is the north Pacific island which the American’s used for nuclear testing during the 50s. 'Eve's Rib', the latest single from the Bella Union sleaze rockers of the same name, doesn’t quite, ahem, explode but is still pretty damn fine nonetheless.
‘Eve’s Rib’, perhaps so named after the temptress in the Garden of Eden, celebrates the female form by using pseudo-religious imagery, and paints a colourful image of a mythical lady turning water into wine, being followed around by an ever increasing flock, and ‘crossing the Serengeti’.
Surely, Bikini Atoll were high when they wrote this, a suspicion perhaps confirmed by the opening line: ‘At the drive thru, a crowd had gathered/ To bear witness, to a miracle’. Well, it did it for me anyway.
Not only that but ‘Eve’s Rib’ was produced by the mighty Steve Albini, and sounds like Lou Reed getting it on with The Stooges. All this and a post rock workout called ‘One Last Cull Pt1&2'. Nice.
