Spoon

I Turn My Camera On

Label: Matador Records Release Date: 02/05/2005

8280
agibbons by Anthony Gibbons May 5th, 2005

Staggeringly, Spoon are now on their sixth album ('Gimme Fiction') so perhaps now with an Interpol support slot under their belts, and the release of 'I Turn My Camera On', Spoon will start to get some recognition.

'I Turn My Camera On' is a sinister-sounding single with a nagging bass hook and sleazy vocals, courtesy of Britt Daniels. It is primarily concerned with failed relationships but a line such as 'I turn my camera on / I turn my feelings on / it made me untouchable for life' provides few clues.

Lyrical ambiguity aside, 'I Turn My Camera On' is possibly the most sordid sounding thing one could hear this year, and for that alone Spoon should be applauded.
