Nakeru provide a helpful phonetic guide to their name on their press release (Nah-Care-Roo) and thus establish themselves as eminently sensible people. The fact that they spent a couple of years gigging and honing their sound before seeking media attention displays a similar single-minded attention to detail. However, you'd not guess it to listen to their bubbling, clattering pop songs, which might have the pedant's dedication to getting things Exactly Right but which certainly haven't let perfectionism squeeze the life out of them.

With a focus on songwriting coupled with a summery cheer which even saturates their more melancholy numbers, they come across as a kind of full-band Simon and Garfunkel with the casual idiosyncrasy of The Kinks and a general air of feel-good tunesmithery (except for third track 'Hip Hip Hooray!', which features the most morose voicing of said phrase I've ever heard). Admittedly it's all a little too clean-cut and chipper for my tastes, but those who've developed a taste for supernaturally catchy, harmonising sixties-esque pop may well find Nakeru to be right up their alley.
