Indigo Moss

Nature Of This Town

Label: Butterfly Records Release Date: 08/10/2007

27819
mikehaydock by Mike Haydock September 27th, 2007

This third single from Indigo Moss is a “re-working” of the final track on their debut, self-titled album, though the differences between the two versions are tough to spot if you’re skipping between them after a long day at work. Needless to say, it’s a delightfully batty ditty, Trevor Moss sounding like Johnny Cash on helium as he sings about shoes with “no toes in” and the police wanting to “steal his strings”.

The bluegrass music and eccentric lyrics blur together, merging the American South with English folk and winding up somewhere quite enchanting. The nature of the town that this lot live in isn’t particularly pleasant, what with the narrator’s poverty and gambling habits, the fact that his “wife” is sleeping with other men and pissheads lining the streets, but the ramshackle, upbeat music will distract you, making your toes tap and your lips curl into a smile.

A simple shanty that’ll have you singing along in no time.
