So slight it’s barely in the room when volume’s pushed to its upper limit, ‘Amory’ is a delicate folk number – just voice and guitar in harmony in the most pleasant way possible.
Lifted from his latest long-player, Cavalier, this standalone offering won’t attract ears anew to Tom Brosseau’s catalogue past, but it makes for a distracting listen when picked up and locked into. Conceptually an ode to This Side Of Paradise’s central protagonist – Google away, literature know-nothings – ‘Amory’ walks the traditional storytelling line perfectly: linear and satisfying come its conclusion.
No revolution’s getting kicked up in the wake of music like this, but Brosseau’s evident mastering of his chosen style is deserving of applause.
