Bullet For My Valentine

The Poison

Label: Visible Noise Release Date: 03/10/2005

11628
-Raz- by Raziq Rauf November 3rd, 2005

In a bold move, the next band of metal warriors from South Wales has made an album to rival their illustrious neighbours. Bullet For My Valentine's debut album is a horribly, unashamedly metal affair all the way from their hair to their shoes and all that lies between. Having released a brace of eps on *Visible Noise *over the past twelve months, the quarter has been steadily building up their support across the country and a notable fact might be that they are the first British band ever to have signed to Trustkill Records in America.

Forming the beginning of their debut album with the same method as the other standout metallers of the moment, Trivium, a brief instrumental lilt is rudely awakened by the battle cries of ‘Her Voice Resides’: a feverishly taught lesson in powerful heavy metal with *Matt Tuck *howling an anguished call-to-arms over super-energised guitar solos. Having passed the only lull one might wish for, we are treated to a further eleven tracks of resounding scope. There is no respite.

Taking into consideration the bitter spluttering and screaming of the words, “look at me now,” over and over again one might say there is enough seething attitude in hit track ‘4 Words (To Choke Upon)’ _to make quite certain that you never think about crossing them. While Bullet… **appear to have truly harnessed the power of the fist-pumping anthem they also demonstrate sweet emo melodies, reminiscent of **Atreyu’s better days, during _‘Tears Don’t Fall’ _and tender, more mournful emo moments during the acoustic-led _‘All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)’. The common factor with all these songs is the unnervingly sing-along chorus followed up with a killer (fucking) riff.

Boasting the enviable ability to seamlessly blend raging power with wonderfully crafted songs, *Bullet… *have produced some of the most exciting British metal around with this collection of, a near flawless, thirteen tracks of modern metal. With a bit of luck and hard work, we will be hearing awe-inspiring heavy metal breakdowns courtesy of *Bullet For My Valentine *for many years to come. Keep your fingers crossed.
