Now that the DVD market is fast outnumbering (and outselling) its lesser aural sibling, it seems every Tom, Rick(y) and Matthew is releasing their most recent "definitive" collection/live concert (delete where inappropriate) just in time for Santa.

To be fair to Muse, rather than cobble together a load of coke-addled egotistical backstage nonsense to fleece the hard-earned punter, they've actually - or rather editor Tom Kirk has - concentrated on what they're best at, i.e. the music.

The 'Absolution Tour' DVD does pretty much as it says on the packet, in that it focuses on the highlights of the band's 18 month slog around the world, featuring their triumphant 2004 Glastonbury headline set as the main course as well as one or two extras, such as rare import only track 'Fury' live from Los Angeles and lost b-side 'The Groove' - previously only available on the DVD version of 'Butterflies And Hurricanes' - live from Cincinatti. Other highlights include Matt Bellamy throwing his guitar into an oversized wheelie bin at the end of their show in San Diego, only for one crazed fan to fish it out (Bellamy back to fan - "that'll be worth three grand soon!" - and the rest mate...) and a breathless, exquisitely cavorted and dramatised 'Endlessly' taken from Wembley Arena.

It is the Glastonbury performance though that fully exalts all that is special about Muse. While a video recording may not be able to fully replicate the actual experience of being there at the time, nothing can diminish the grandiose spectacle of Matt Bellamy, looking exceedingly splendorous in his circus ringmaster cum orchestral conductor attire of long white overcoat and pinstriped suit, taking centre stage during the life affirming semi-operatics of 'Butterflies And Hurricanes', while the show stealing solo of 'Blackout' is one of those moments of pure virtuoso.

With the full stop finally having been administered on their Absolution phase with this DVD, this is not only a stark reminder of what UK gig goers have gone without for a whole year, but also a mouth watering appetiser for 2006's proposed fourth studio album and long overdue tour.

Genius then, but did you honestly expect anything less?
