Nickelback

Never Again

Label: Roadrunner Records Release Date: 25/11/2002

2824
gdobson by Gareth Dobson November 25th, 2002

Nickelback, you poor, poor confused people.

"'Never Again' _sees the grunge-rockers tackling the thorny issue of domestic violence in a typically powerful and thought provoking way_." trumpets their press release.

'Typically powerful and though provoking', it turns out, means Canada's most shameful export churns out a grinding, painful sub-Metallica number regalling us of a night where "the living room becomes a boxing room". "She's just a woman!" cries Chad Kroeger as he lifts his knuckles from the floor to gently pat the poor female on her head. But, how does Chad suggest that this situation can be remedied? "_Kicking your ass would be a pleasure_," he grunts, or perhaps the said victim could find her own solution?

"_She grabs the gun, she's had enough, she's going to find out how fucking tough this man is_".

Nickelback, turning the most shameful of situations into a chest-beating anthem. And for that, you can only gape in wonderment.
