The Needs

The Motobikin EP

Label: Release Date: 18/07/2003

George by George July 18th, 2003

Offensive name. Mostly wicked demo.

'Stick Around': Pleasantly Libertines-esque which I guess means I should say it sounds like the **Small Faces ripping down Carnaby Street in leathers, but this is 2003 and to me it sounds like the Libertines cos I ain’t my mum and my frame of reference tends to be modern, alright Grandad?

_'Motobikin': I admire any song about motorbiking that manages to take itself seriously and isn't reminiscent of the leader of the pack. This is fun: kinda Stones kinda Doors, a touch gospel choir. A hard trick to pull but pulled here admirably.

'Would You Like to Come Back to My Place and Listen to Roy Orbison?': Oh silly boys from Streatham, why do you pretend you’re from Noo Yawk. We all know you’re not, you know. Goodness me what a lot of swearing, it almost makes me blush, and it seems to be about a girl. Hmmm... could do better.

Are they Special?

Well, they’re very competent, and put a bit of a twist on the retro Strokes/Libertines ‘garage-rock’ glut we’re enjoying/suffering at the moment.

Are they Needy?

They look like they need a good wash.

Are they Special Needs?

Swearing about ladies and saying “what a pss fcking c*nt” may qualify as special needs in certain circles.

Do we need them?

Well, not in the way that we need things like say, calcium and Beck, but like a chocolate éclair, we may not need them, but on occasion they sure are nice.
