Moshi Moshi starts singles club
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver July 20th, 2006

London-based indie label Moshi Moshi is to start its own singles club, a la Sub Pop, Gringo and, um, DiS actually...

Due to begin its run of releases in the autumn, the series will feature a variety of acts including Simian (pictured) and danananaykroyd. Each release will come on a nice, limited-to-1,000-copies seven-inch, with a specially designed (by the artist) sleeve. Mmmm, wax...

Michael McCartney, Mr Moshi Moshi to you, said:

"You could say Moshi Moshi has been built on one-off single releases: it's how the label got its name known, and it's how we got the opportunity to work with great bands like Bloc Party and The Rakes.

"However, in the past couple of years we've been moving away from one-off releases to concentrate on developing bands over albums, starting with Hot Chip, then Architecture In Helsinki, Tilly and The Wall, Lo-Fi-Fnk and Hot Club de Paris.

"But there's still so much more we want to do. Plus we have a slightly nerdy, teenage attachment to the 7". There's something wonderfully genuine and indulgent about just releasing a single because you like the band or the song. Especially at a time when there is so much great music around and the 7" market is thriving."
