In case it escaped your attention, here’s the skinny for this weekend’s most fun to be had in London town:
ONE
Wake up a little groggy on Saturday morning – late Saturday morning – and make tea and toast. Perhaps grill or fry some bacon, but not the vegetarian variety, Fakeon. Oh no sir, that stuff will make your guts fall outta your behind quicker than post-rockers grow beards. Or is that what happens when you eat a whole tube of Soft Mints in thirty seconds? I forget. Anyway, eat something and wait an hour or so ‘til your bedroom, kitchen or living room stops spinning about the place.
TWO
Put some crap television on. Football Focus will spend forty minutes analysing how England only just inched past Macedonia, but will afford Northern Ireland’s amazing victory over those cocky Spanish sorts only a few minutes of attention. Bastards. Eat some more stuff: you’ll need to, for reasons explained in all of ONE SECOND.
THREE
Get dressed and come to DiS’s afternoon of FUN and ROCK and BOOZE at RoTa, the weekly free gig held from four ‘til eight in the pm at Notting Hill Arts Club. We’ve got a bill so tasty you’ll wanna lick our faces until all our freckles disappear. Yup. George is a recent star of NME's Radar section: “takes a blog-esque approach to lyricism and pulls it through a Death Cab-meets-Patti Smith-o-scope”. George used to sing, sometimes, with Oxford-based band This Town Needs Guns. She now sings by herself. She likes Bjork and Boards Of Canada, Cat Power and The Kills.

ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND
"Experimental/Folk/Hip Hop" says their MySpace page. We know they rap, and we know they’ve a stage presence that’s off the scale, but are they any good? Well, yes. Otherwise they wouldn’t be playing. D’uh. You might spot personnel from bands that aren’t Adventure Playground in the line-up of Adventure Playground, if that makes any sense. No? Whatever…

CUTTING PINK WITH KNIVES
Cutting Pink With Knives are from London. They number three. Or four. We’re not sure. Their Oh Wow album was released through Adaadat earlier this year. Their music is fast and loud and angry and funny and stupid and brilliant. It's the new rave new ravers fear. It’s the hardcore hardcore kids can’t mosh to. You could dance or fight to it, make love or war. "...So brilliantly detached from the unexpected, even, that its collision of glitch-fevered beats and stab-frenzy guitars simply can’t fail to impress," we said about the band's debut, before falling asleep, exhausted, in a pool of our own making.

OPTIMIST CLUB
Optimist Club make punk rock look easy: frenzied guitar attacks are underpinned by complex but incessant drumming, leaving the listener beguiled by the four-piece's obvious compositional skill but also, uncontrollably, tapping their toes. “They're tight, taunt and look like they're on the very edge of sanity,” wrote one DiS user of a past show. With a front man entirely likely to step from the stage and into your face, the Optimist Club live experience is an entirely interactive one. Forget that 'look easy' remark, actually - Optimist Club make punk rock ROCK. Yup. Their forthcoming Ripped & Psyched album has been aired in the DiS office more times over the last week than anything else. It’s awesome.
