DiScover Club at The Barfly: it's THIS FRIDAY
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver September 13th, 2006

Wednesday, eh? A girl I used to work with, years ago now, referred to it as ‘Hump Day’. Me, taking things all too literally, went at it on her leg for months before she explained that she meant ‘hump’ like a hill; that ‘Hump Day’ merely meant that we’d reached the working week’s summit, its peak, and from hereon in it was all downhill, baby. She left the office soon after that, departing for Greece, or Turkey, or someplace far away where I couldn’t reach her. Figures…

But WHAT, I hear you ask, waits at the end of this particular descent to the weekend? Why, the DiScover Club at the Camden Barfly, of course! This month we’ve not only jigged the club a little, so that we’re now presenting to you, dear reader/punter, the very best new bands we’ve wrapped our lugholes around, but we’ve also moved it a week forward. Why? Why not! Here are all the details you could ever want…

DrownedinSound.com presents…

I Was A Cub Scout
Recent stars of Drowned in Sound's DiScover section, I Was A Cub Scout come on like a splendid amalgam of The Postal Service and Digital Ash-era Bright Eyes. A two-man band from Nottingham, they offer rousing, rambunctious disco-pop joy, wrapped in punk-rock language and indie electronica.

The Low Miffs
The latest band to be given the White Heat Records treatment, the label that launched cult stars ¡Forward, Russia!, Les Incompetents and Comanechi. Scottish quintet The Low Miffs play saxophone-penetrated angular indie-rock with a massive dancefloor sensibility and endless punk rock charm.

Plus we have wicked fresh awesome deejays for you, spinning discs of delightfully toe-tappin’ and hip-poppin’ excellence. Expect to hear Ollie Russian and Pirate Gaz of FROG fame, John Brainlove and Bamos, and also DiS’s own disc-jockeys of utmost skill and, like, sexiness.

The remaining facts of absolute necessity:

Where:
The Barfly
49 Chalk Farm Road
London NW1 8AN
Nearest Tubes: Chalk Farm and Camden Town (Northern Line)

How much:
A fiver advance from here. Tickets on the door will cost more, so buy before the night!

Doors:
Elevenin the pm, or 23.00 if you’re one of these 24-hour clock fancying freaks.
We’ll chuck you out at three, be sure of that.

This show is an OVER 18s event. Don’t come if you’re not likely to blag your way in with fake ID like, at all underage, y’hear?
