Lonely When You Strop: Ordinary Boy walks out of recording
diabolo by Gemma Curry January 11th, 2007

Samuel Preston of mildly popular ska-lite The Ordinary Boys left the makers of mildly popular BBC2 music quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks reeling when he became the first guest in the programme's ten-year history to storm out during its recording on Tuesday night (9th January). Quite incredible, considering the diatribes of original host Mark Lamarr, I'm sure you'll agree.

Now fronted by ex-Popworld presenter Simon Amstell, the singer, according to a DiS snoop, became increasingly agitated as Amstell not only jokingly praised the band's third albumHow to Get Everything You Ever Wanted in Ten Easy Steps, but questioned how many tracks were written by the frontman and inevitably mocked his stint on last year's Celebrity Big Brother. He quoted sections from wife Chantelle Houghton's autobiography Living The Dream, with the following passage becoming the final indignity:

"The photoshoot was for the _Daily Mail, which made me feel very posh and upmarket. I'd never in my wildest dreams imagined I would be in the Daily Mail wearing M&S!"_

Probably best that he left when he did then. Amstell also had OK! and Hello front covers of the couple in his arsenal and a Paris Hilton look-alike featuring in the newly added 'From Biggie to Smalls' round. Filming only continued when team captain Bill Bailey seized a Preston 'look-alike' from the studio audience to join Phil Jupitus's team.

Oh dear. Was Preston a bad sport given that the programme is famous for its acidic, provocative humour? Was he nobly defending his wife's honour? Or is it conveniently timed tabloid fodder for his band's new single 'I Luv U', released January 15th? You decide.
