Capsule announce special Birmingham Town Hall show
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver August 6th, 2007

The brains behind the annual Supersonic Festival (2007 review here), Capsule, have announced details of a very special show at Birmingham's Town Hall, to be staged as part of said venue's re-opening festival.

Playing live on October 15 will be Pram (pictured), Modified Toy Orchestra and DiS favourites Shady Bard, soon to be on tour with iLiKETRAiNS. Say the powers that be: Prepare to be amazed by a menagerie of artists using unconventional instruments and enchanting visuals to create three stunning live performances.

The event's a seated affair, and tickets are a tenner in advance from the Town Hall website, which can be found here. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased over the phone by calling 0121 780 3333.

Pram: HERE
Pioneering experimentalists Pram will showcase their latest album, The Moving Frontier. Mixing theremin, trombone, stylophone, clarinet, bowed vibraphone, airsynth and analogue keyboards with loops and samples, they create gently chaotic rhythms around strange tales of mermaids, chrysalids and owls. The gig is a welcome return home for the Birmingham-based band, whose most recent adventures have seen them headlining St Etienne's Joe Meek tribute night for the Turntable Cafe at the South Bank Centre en route from Moscow to Istanbul.

Modified Toy Orchestra: HERE
Modified Toy Orchestra are a live electronic act that uses no conventional instruments, no midi, no sequencing, no sampling, no synthesizers, no laptops. Modified Toy Orchestra are a collection of abandoned and reconstructed children’s electronic toys, conducted by a selection of musicians. Their performance at last year's Sonar Festival in Barcelona attracted huge attention resulting in performances at seven European festivals this year, including Dissonance (Rome), Zemos (Madrid), Faster than Sound Festival (UK) and Birmingham’s very own Supersonic Festival. Their appearance at the Town Hall's opening festival will be a welcome return and fitting finale to this year’s festival performances.

Shady Bard: HERE
Described as a miniature indie orchestra, Shady Bard's line-up includes violin, cello and French horn alongside guitars, piano, percussion and samples, resulting in beautiful, frail torchlight melodies; broken and melancholy, songs that are hauntingly mysterious and rich. The Birmingham five-piece have been drawing comparisons to Mercury Rev, Super Furry Animals, Low, Godspeed and Arab Strap.
